Russia has the largest reserves and is the largest exporter of natural gas. It has the second largest coal reserves, the eighth largest oil reserves, and is one of the largest producers of oil. Russia’s economy is highly dependent on its hydrocarbons, and oil and natural gas revenues account for more than one-third of the federal budget revenues. Russia is a major producer and exporter of oil and natural gas. Russia’s economic growth is driven by energy exports, given its high oil and natural gas production. The massive, transcontinental country of Russia is the world's second-largest oil exporter. In 2017, Russia's oil exports accounted for 11.1% of global oil exports, exceeding a value of $93 billion. As a size comparison, Russia is twice as large as the entire United States. As a group, Middle Eastern countries continued to sell the highest dollar value worth of crude oil exports during 2018 with shipments valued at $486.1 billion or 42.9% of globally exported crude oil. From a continent level, roughly half of unprocessed petroleum oil came from countries in Asia (49.5%).
